A Recent Observation

What is it about piano players
that makes them inherently sexy?
That little something that keeps you mesmorized
to the point where you can’t tear yourself away.
As they bring forth such beautiful sounds
from such dull, heavy machinery.
Anything seems possible
as any melody is playable by ear.
I can’t explain it.
Something just comes over me.
A feeling of warmth, calm, seduction;
as I watch his hands moving ever so gently
across the keys,
bringing each to a perfect pitch,
blending note after note
harmony after harmony
tapping his feet to keep the rhythm going
all the while.
Maybe it’s the way he gets into the music,
the way he expresses himself as he plays.
Or perhaps it’s the agility of his ever-moving hands
that entices me and holds my unwavering gaze.
Whatever it is, I can’t help but find myself
insanely jealous of that damn piano,
hoping for a time
when he’ll play me just as well.

The New Kid

What am I so afraid of?
You’re a nice guy.
Great to talk to, fun to be with.
The first real attention I’ve had
on me in over a year.
It’s flattering, but is that all?
I find myself growing evermore confused
with every invitation, conversation, meeting.
Having never been in this scenario,
I welcome the new feelings and experiences
with hesitation,
wondering if I’m just afraid to let myself fall too quickly,
as no doubt I’ve been burned in the past.
Yet I enjoy being around you-if only at a friendly level.
Maybe it’s just too soon to tell.
Who knows?

Up, up, up we rise
to an inhuman place of cloudless sky.
Overlooking the Earth from beyond,
viewing a sea of white below us.
There are no birds up here, only sky.
No sound save for the drumming of our engines,
carrying us far away from home
on our way to something greater.

Stuck.

Trapped.

Unmoving.

Hundreds of people in the same boat
with nowhere to go,
stagnating as we jealously watch
our fellow travelers go on their way
toward family, friends,
their own adventures.
Knowing we too will leave someday,
only when?

Time stop forever.

Love:

Patience at its best.
Can stop time with one embrace.
Take over my soul.

Touch:

Sweet, soft, exploring
every inch of my skin.
Don’t hold back, my love.

Craving:

I would give it all
for the love of a dancer.
Steal my heart away.

Can’t Sleep

Thoughts fill my mind
which races so fast
it could leave Seabiscuit in the dust.
Words seem to flow
from my brain
through my hand,
filling the page with nonsense
like this.
Inspiration strikes when you least expect it.
With no way to turn it off,
sometimes you just have to hold on tight
and see where it takes you.

Too Many Questions

Is it worth it just to leap into one’s arms
without stopping to think about anything?
What might be?
What might not?
Who cares, as long as it happens?
To jump or not to jump?
To bound into your arms
or stand still, trembling inside?
Not wanting to stay, yet not willing to go.
The risks are plenty, but worth it in time.
Choices abound, but which one is right?

My Hero

A rope bridge extends connecting two mountain peaks.
The valley below sparkles with the blood of many
who have never made it across.

You’re on one side,
I’m on the other.
Both willing to cross, yet petrified of falling.
We’ve both been there before,
you more times than I.
Both of us know what can happen,
yet we continue to hope for the best.

We yell words of encouragement to each other as the wind picks up speed.
Before you can start your perilous journey across,
I start to walk.
Slowly but surely.
I am filled with your love and know I shall be fine.
I walk steadily, held fast by your words of love,
knowing that a great reward awaits me on the other side.
As scary as the journey may be, I am more than willing to take it.
Just knowing you’ll be there to greet me gives me the strength I need to make it through.

Toward the middle of the bridge I feel the sway
and stumble when a piece of it falls through to the canyon
leaving me just enough time to look up to you
staring at me in horror from the other side.

Without any further thought, you dart out
from the safety of your footing
and dash to my aid,
pulling me to my feet,
holding me close,
as we start the last part of our walk together.

I feel safe in your arms once again,
knowing that nothing and no one can hurt me.
Knowing you’re close by to guide me through
whatever we face once we reach home.

Our love is like a smoldering flame,
getting hotter and hotter as the fire burns.
Slowing faltering over time, but never burning out.
Just when I think the wind is too much to bear,
it glows brighter against all odds.
Our flame is sustained by an eternal heat
rising from deep within me
when provoked by your touch.
Oh, sweet passion and desire, stay with me
until the day when our candles are blown out
by the jealous lips of fate.
